Abstract:
|
Births with sexual anatomies not fitting common biological definitions of male or female are known as intersex births. This paper discusses the five biological definitions of sex, from chromosomes to external genitalia and discusses the variations in sexual anatomy that equate to intersex. The mainly medical and sociological literatures about the various characteristics argued as intersex are reviewed. The paper concludes that as many as 2 percent of births may be regarded as intersex.
