Abstract:
|
Large cohort studies are increasingly employing accelerometers to measure physical activity. Summaries derived from accelerometry data have been shown to be highly associated with a number of prevalent and incident health outcomes. However, most summaries of accelerometry data have no inherent interpretability and are limited in their transportability across studies due to the use of different devices worn in different locations on the body. Here we discuss a method for establishing interpretable summaries of physical activity which are transportable across studies. Methods are applied to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2003-2006 and the UK Biobank studies.
