Extensive effort has been spent over the past decade to characterize the human brain transcriptome within and across cell types to better understand changes in RNA expression associated with brain development and aging, developmental or psychiatric brain disorders, and local genetic variation. Here we describe various statistical strategies and subsequent public resources for interrogating postmortem brain tissue gene expression at bulk/homogenate, cell type-specific and spatial molecular resolutions. These resources can be combined with summary statistics from genome-wide association studies to better pinpoint molecular consequences of genetic risk for serious brain disorders across the human brain.
