Over the past several years, the birth rate amongst teenagers has declined in the U.S. Geographic variation in birth rates for teens by race groups and Hispanic origin at the county level has largely not been explored due to the limited amount of data for some groups. We used teenage birth data for the age group 15-19 for the year 2016 to explore geographic variation in teenage birth rates at the county level for one particular race group: American Indian Alaskan Natives (AIAN). Small area estimation methods are used to predict teen birth rates for the age groups 15-19 for the race group AIAN at the county level. Results may help highlight U.S. counties where teen birth rates for AIAN females in the age group 15-19 are significantly high or low and inform programs focusing on prevention of teen pregnancies.
