The art of technical statistics communication with non-statisticians is often an under-developed and under-taught skill in statistical science. The growing need for collaborative work across disciplines often includes communication with highly educated scientific colleagues, technical non-scientists with whom one collaborates in day-to-day work, and briefings with senior management. It can also include the media and the public, as well as decision makers in policy. Making your point in these settings often does not fit the traditional paradigm found in academic settings and traditional research talks. Combining experiences across industry, government, and academic research, as well as university teaching including graduate consulting, how to develop technical communication skills that are tailored to different audiences will be discussed. This will include real-world examples developing actionable projects and practical methodologies, as well as bringing together cross-disciplinary teams to solve problems in statistical science.
