W. Edwards Deming published hundreds of articles in academic journals, the popular press, and letters to editors. He wrote papers for clients and students; and conducted hundreds of studies for government, industry, and education. Coupled with undistributed draft papers, personal correspondence, books, and pamphlets, Deming’s written legacy occupies 70 linear feet of shelf space at the Library of Congress in Washington DC.
Unlike many statisticians, Deming wrote and developed theory while engaged in statistical practice. So, he knew what was required in the field. Deming wrote 124 articles and three books specifically to establish and clarify statistical sampling techniques. He developed practical methods for carrying out statistical designs. Some of his papers emphasized the need to bring statistical methods into various industries and disciplines. Deming set standards for legal evidence, worked on a code of professional conduct, and contributed to statistics in law, accounting, census taking, international trade, management and quality.
Panelists will focus on Sampling Methods, Enumerative and Analytic Studies, Organizational Improvement, and Statistical Control.
