Abstract:
|
Ingram Olkin made fundamental contributions to meta-analysis among many other things. His contributions to the formulation of meta-analysis as an estimation problem and the development of methods for handling many common meta-analytic problems is reasonably well known. Less well known is the work (some of it unpublished) that preceded his earliest published work described by the term meta-analysis. In it we see an understanding of the problem in a way that is completely consistent with the later work. His role in helping meta-analysis become established as new statistical specialty is also underappreciated.
