Keywords: Longitudinal Path Analysis; Moderator; Mediator; Aging
Abstract:

Path analysis has a long history of use in social science research. This powerful analytical tool is able to model potential moderator and mediator in a regression analysis. The findings from these analyses are important since researchers can use this information to tailor future intervention. With current statistical software, Path Analysis also has the ability to develop more complicated models, such as multilevel models, latent growth models, and modeling with interaction effects. In this presentation, we will apply Path Analysis to one of the longest-running aging studies, the Baltimore Longitudinal study of Aging. We will use the statistical package Mplus which accounts for the repeated measurements from each individual. We will identify significant moderators and mediators for the relationship between personality traits and muscle strength decline.
