Abstract:

The availability of extensive administrative and external data sources e. g. health and social security data, geo-referenced points of interest, social media data or environmental data) has been increasing for years. For labour market and occupational research this means a steady increase in the analysis potential. One of the central dataset in the field of labour market, welfare state and poverty research in Germany is the Panel Study "Labour Market and Social Security" (PASS). From the beginning, PASS relies on linking its survey data with other data sources. Individual links between the PASS data and administrative data of the Federal Employment Agency as well as with the large databases of commercial providers have already been successfully used in the past. This project builds on these experiences and aims to develop new analysis potentials from linking PASS with administrative data as well as external data from public available sources. The focus lies on enriching PASS with additional spatial features such as small-scale aggregated context information (e. g. the living environment) or distance information at the individual level (e. g. distance to job center).
