Exposing students to 'real-world' applications of statistics is, of course, essential for their learning to appreciate the power of the discipline and the contributions it has made and continues to make to furthering the knowledge base in many areas of study. As interesting, and intriguing to me, is when I find statistical ideas in works of fiction, not as throw-away lines or because a character is a statistician, but because, in some way, the statistical idea is an integral part of the storyline. Three such findings will be presented through dramatic readings of appropriate excerpts from two novels and a play, all suitable for classroom use. Act 1: When Normal isn't 'normal', Act 2: "I'm not Good at Tests - I'd rather Cheat", Act 3: Who Moved the Mode?
