Abstract:

In genome-wide association studies (GWAS) regarding complex diseases, there is an increasing interest on pleiotropy, a phenomenon where a genetic variant has effects on multiple traits. Various statistical models have been developed to test for association between genetic variants and multiple phenotypes. Most of them rely on the normality assumption and do not focus on multiple types of traits that can be both discrete and continuous. We develop a novel likelihood based model to test the association between genetic variants and multiple discrete and continuous traits. The model can be applied to both common and rare genetic variants, as well as admixed populations.
