Speciation is not an instantaneous event. During a process of speciation, a species split into two or more populations and some diverge into a new species. Migrations are common evolutionary processes occurring between populations before they grow into new species becoming reproductively isolated. Protracted speciation models can be applied to estimate the speciation duration, but does not take account of migrations. We incorporate migrations to a speciation model to estimate the duration of species.
