Abstract:

The sample size calculation plays an important role in clinical trials. Estimation of sample size in clinical trials requires knowledge of parameters. When there is uncertainty about some of the parameters, it can be challenging to determine the number of subjects required for the study. This article provides a method via the transition probability matrix to re-estimate the sample size based on interim data while the blind procedure is preserved. The examples of categorical response, continuous response and survival data are provided to illustrate the use of proposed methods.
