Abstract:
|
This poster aims to analyse mental health related emergency department visits in Alberta, Canada made during the period 2002-2011 while accounting for any spatio-temporal effects. The data are extracted from the provincial health administrative data systems of Alberta. A descriptive data analysis will be presented, and then spatio-temporal modelling techniques will be explored to model the emergency department visit counts. A generalized linear model with a time-varying sine and cosine function to account for the seasonal effect, a semiparametric generalized additive model, and a random effects model are considered. Demographic risk factors and their association with the frequency of mental health related emergency department visits will be examined. Estimates of the model parameters will be obtained and tests on the models' residuals will be performed to detect if there is a presence of spatio-temporal correlation.
