Abstract:

It seems clear that 'analytics' is an interdisciplinary topic that intersects the ASA's vision of statistics education. Business analytics is in the headlines daily and business majors are arguably the largest group (estimated as high as 20%) taking an introductory statistics course. How does a single course meet the broad goals of developing statistical thinking and also connect statistics to business analytics? GAISE 2016 emphasizes that statistical thinking includes the investigative process of problem-solving and decision-making as well as multivariate thinking. This session brings educators of both business focused and more general introductory courses, from business schools, and those teaching data science/analytics to begin a discussion about how to prepare students for further instruction in data science/analytics while still meeting the goals of GAISE 2016.
