The CBMS Surveys of Undergraduate Programs in the Mathematical Sciences have been conducted every five years, beginning in 1965, using a stratified random sample of two-year college mathematics programs, and of four-year college and university undergraduate programs in departments of mathematics, and of statistics. The most recent survey, conducted in 2015, provides data of interest to leaders on course enrollments, course instructors, Bachelor's degrees awarded, faculty demographics, programs for majors, and pedagogy, and allows comparison between mathematics departments and statistics departments. Findings from the 2015 survey that should interest statistics program decision makers include: large growth in statistics enrollments, particularly at the upper-level, and at two-year colleges, Introductory Statistics instructors in mathematics departments typically having no degree in statistics, growth in the use of non-tenure-eligible full-time faculty, and comparison of Introductory Statistics courses taught in four-year mathematics departments and in statistics departments. The session will include opportunities for audience members to make suggestions for the 2020 CBMS survey.
