Abstract:

This presentation suggests how both organizational and thought leaders can best lead the professions into the next decade and beyond by making better use of evidence. Elizabeth L. Scott's work as a thought leader will be used as an example. A specific focus will be on the use of national databases on the mathematical sciences professions to raise questions, build vision, strategically plan, and influence the big picture direction of the professions. A vision will be articulated for how more statisticians can become thought leaders who collaborate with local- and national-level organizational leaders to accelerate the advancement of the profession.
