Abstract #323603
Title: Statistical Inference in the Era of Precision Medicine- the Essential Role of Statistics for Unmet Needs in Algorithm Refinement, Diagnostics Application and Drug Development
Author(s): Ruixiao Lu*
Companies: Genomic Health
Keywords: data-driven decision ; patient management ; precision medicine ; oncology ; biomarker selection
Abstract:

Precision medicine in oncology has become very promising and feasible in the era of big data. Growing knowledge of the cancer molecular mechanism has driven the field to identify specific tumor characteristics and develop data-driven decisions to improve the overall patient management. However, considerable statistical challenges exist in many aspects in the field, from biomarker detection algorithm refinement, patient-specific subgroup identification, to the application of companion diagnostic devices to clinical trials to optimize drug development process and efficacy. A comprehensive and successful solution could only be achieved with collaborations across the board.

The roundtable would propose to discuss the state-of-the-art in this exciting field of oncology on study design, assay refinement and diagnostics application, and will appeal to a wide range of applied statistician, data scientists, and the researchers from related scientific areas in the biopharmaceutical and biotech industry. The goal is to discuss ideas that enables the best patient management and for clinical trial to maximize the chance of success.
