The purpose of this panel is to share how different approaches to professional development [PD] can be designed and implemented and have impacts on practices in teaching statistics in varying contexts. Panelists, representing different approaches to PD and perspectives, will discuss the overall design and implementation of PD and relative impact on teachers. The perspectives shared include: 1) Meeting within a Meeting at JSM, including typical attendees, structure of meetings, and evidence of impact; 2) Massive Open Online Courses, includes the design of a Teaching Statistics MOOC, enrollment trends, patterns of engagement, and evidence of impact; 3) Advanced Placement Statistics Exam Readings, includes two Exam Readers sharing their experiences, how readings are organized, and how they can serve as PD for teachers; 4) Summer institutes and local PD groups, includes a description of local summer workshops in a region, including issues in marketing and communication, and experiences creating regional hubs of community college instructors. Audience interaction and questions will be encouraged.
