Author(s): Ying Ding*

Keywords: big data ; collaboration ; interdiscipline ; partnership
Abstract:

The rapid advancement in technologies combined with the innovation in automation has triggered an explosion in data production. The potential of big data for advancing research in many fields is enormous but at the same time, a wide range of challenges arise in making sense of these huge volumes of data. Compared to traditional research with smaller amount of data, more areas of expertise are required to bring together an integrative understanding of the data. An effective interdisciplinary collaboration is the key to assure success in such research.

The purpose of this roundtable is to share/learn the collaborative needs and identify/promote partnership opportunities for research problems that contain big data. Collaborations between two or more entities across academia, industry, and/or government are especially encouraged. The target audience of this session includes statisticians and data scientists engaging in big data research across various fields.
