Abstract:
|
Statistics is essential?-but what statistical concepts are essential and when should these be taught? Have these concepts changed over the years and if so, how do we adapt? The session chair will pose these questions to the three-member panel and moderate a discussion about what should be taught and learned in secondary schools, where collegiate statistics can interface with the secondary curriculum to make a clear learning trajectory for students, and what this implies for teacher professional development and preservice teacher education. The panel will also make suggestions for resources to support this transition, in particular in helping students confront typical misconceptions in understanding and interpreting data.
