Abstract #321663
Title: Modeling Variation in Diversity
Author(s): Michael Anderson*

Keywords: diversity index ; species abundance ; polylog distribution ; generalized linear regression
Abstract:

Ecologists and wildlife biologists use the Zipf, logarithmic, and lognormal distributions to model species abundance. The polylog distribution is proposed as a unifying model that can provide estimates of diversity indicies and total species counts. The distribution is used to model temporal or spatial variation of species diversity. Examples from demographics, authorship, and a bird migration route are presented.
