Abstract:

We present multivariate time series analysis motivated by applications in biophysics. Electronic Cell-substrate Impedance Sensing measures the electrical behavior of a cell culture exposed to an alternating current; we can obtain time series by observing the changes in impedance, including components for resistance and capacitance, as the culture grows. Applying multiple AC frequencies to the culture yields several linked time courses. We then explore a feature space for the observations, to use in clustering or classifying different types of cells based on their electrical behavior, and determine which features are more robust to experimental variation.
