In this talk we discuss an approach to teaching called scripting. We find an innocuous comic strip featuring two characters and remove all dialogue, thoughts, and narration. We then instruct our students to write new dialogue, thoughts, and narration so that one character interacts with and explains an important concept from class to the other character.
We provide an example that we used in a controlled experiment executed across two sections of an introductory statistics course, and we present an analysis of the results.
