A statistician's role in research can be small or large, superficial or substantive, and early or late in the project cycle. Our experience shows that stronger relationships with researchers produce greater contributions. If statisticians limit themselves to playing small technical roles, they may miss opportunities to contribute in meaningful ways. Adopting an approach that blends technical expertise with soft skills like creativity and innovation, can significantly increase the value delivered to the intended stakeholders. This is possible when the statistician/researcher relationship has a solid foundation built on trust, mutual respect and appreciation of unique viewpoints. The Committee on Applied Statisticians (CAS) has taken on the new initiative of helping the statistical community promote collaborative relationships. This panel will introduce a draft roadmap developed by CAS, highlighting plans for training, webinars, workshops, etc. This session is important for statisticians who want to increase engagement levels and contributions, as well as those who want to promote the practice and profession of statistics by developing resources they can use to their advantage.
