Tuberculosis (TB), caused by infection with Mybobacterium tuberculosis, is a major cause of mortability world-wide. An estimated 1 million children fall ill fromTB each year. TB is most often diagnosed in sputum, however, obtaining an accurate sputum from children is often not feasible. A urine diagnostic test for TB would greatly improve the ability to test, and accurately treat children with TB. Using novel metabolomic techniques, we have identified potential urinary biomarkers for TB infection from a cohort of children patients with TB in Haiti.
