Title: LISA 2020: Improving Agricultural Research in Tanzania Through Statistical Collaboration
Author(s): Richard Ngaya* and Eric Vance
Companies: Virginia Tech and Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis
Keywords: Statistical collaboration
Abstract:

Success of research endeavors in many fields, including agriculture, depends on the researchers designing practical methodology that will enable them to collect the data necessary to answer their research questions. Statistics plays a major role towards well-designed methodology, good analysis and correct interpretation of research results. One of the major challenges facing agricultural researchers is reproducible and productive researches. Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (SUALISA), a member of the LISA 2020 network of statistical laboratories, fosters collaboration between agricultural researchers and statisticians for improved research design, analysis and interpretation of results at SUA and Tanzania in general. This collaboration has been in effect since 2014 to great initial success. This talk will highlight plans to expand the role of SUALISA in the region, common problems arising in agricultural research and how statisticians can help to solve them, and how my experience in LISA will help me to help agricultural researchers.
