Diffusion cartogram is a popular display for areal data. It reshapes the areas in proportion to the numerical value, while maintaining the adjacency and topology. However, the spatial integrity brings two limitations: deviation from the target size, and distortion from the recognizable shape. This research proposes a new evaluation method that can balance the shape and area accuracy in diffusion cartograms, and implements the ideas in a graphical user interface that can allow analysts to examine the effect of parameter choices on the cartogram.
