Kathryn Chaloner made outstanding contributions to many areas of statistics, through her research in design and clinical trials, administration, teaching, and mentoring. One of the themes of her research was that the experimental design process should incorporate uncertainty about the model. I will review some of the research and applications that have been influenced by her work, and talk about some recent research that uses her ideas in survey sampling.
