Abstract:

Statistical collaboration laboratories in academia train statisticians and data scientists to become interdisciplinary collaborators, provide research infrastructure to enable and accelerate high impact research, and engage with their communities in outreach activities to improve statistical knowledge and literacy. These statistical collaboration laboratories can have extraordinary impacts on current and future generations of statistical practitioners by training students to move from theory to practice and provide opportunities to gain valuable experience helping researchers, government officials, and local businesses advance research, make scientific discoveries, and make better decisions. This presentation outlines the key aspects of modern statistical collaboration laboratories and encourages statistics departments to upgrade their consulting centers to become collaboration laboratories that institutionalize statistical collaboration in the training and practice of statisticians worldwide to fully realize the extraordinary power of statistical collaboration.
