Title: Characterizing the Prognostic Potential of Dynamic Markers: Connections to Information Theory
Author(s): Patrick Heagerty* and Jason Chao-Kang Liang

Keywords: information ; partial likelihood ; biomarker
Abstract:

In many biomedical applications a primary goal is to predict incident or future cases and appropriate measures that characterize predictive potential or incremental value are needed. For time-varying markers we review methods that can characterize predictive performance, and provide a direct connection to information theory concepts. We connect performance measures to partial likelihood and offer methods for non-parametric estimation.
