Abstract:

I shall explain the need for statistical hypotheses testing in big data scientific problems, and the reliance on drawing a bright line. I shall then emphasize the importance of (i) capturing the relevant error relevant to replicability, and of (ii) addressing selective inference. I shall demonstrate with example from 'reproducibility projects' how these two issues harm replicability when not attended for appropriately.
