In 2014 AbbVie Pharmaceuticals, a "research-based biopharmaceutical company ... with a 25,000-strong global team" (as its publicity material puts it) instituted the AbbVie Statistics Visiting Scholar Program In Honor of Dr. David C. Jordan. Its goal was to bring in an academic researcher with experience in biomedical applications to consult and collaborate with AbbVie's large staff of statisticians. For the past three months (at the time of this writing) I have had the privilege and pleasure of being the 2nd such visitor. My initial impression is that of a thirsty man drinking through a fire hose: the collaborations are many and the issues are all real and complex. No doubt I will have a more perceptive and complete viewpoint to present at the time of the meetings, which roughly coincide with the end of my appointment.
