Abstract #317593
Title: Model Selection for mRNA Counts

Abstract:

The measurement of protein synthesis is typically more difficult than the measurement of its precursor mRNA. Both of them are produced during the on (active) state of a gene. Previous studies have shown that mRNA translation occurs in bursts which lead to non-Poisson counts. We study the fits of the Conway-Maxwell-Poisson family of distributions and a model based on the stochastic chemical master equation to such counts. We also develop a regression procedure based on the master equation.
