Abstract:

Flickr, pronounced as 'flicker', is a photo sharing and photo-hosting website owned by Yahoo Inc. According to an estimate, on an average 1.6 million public photos were uploaded to Flickr per day during 2013 (Michel, 2013). Among this huge mass of photographs, only 500 get selected every day to a pool of photos called "Explore" based on their interestingness. Arguably these photos are selected based on a computer algorithm that relies on interestingness, popularity, and other unknown criteria of a photo. We fit some equations to data to predict explore-membership of a photo based on available photo-metadata to identify potential features that makes a photo 'explored'.
