Title: Ethics and Cultural Dynamics Surrounding Statisticians in the Workplace
Author(s): Steven Bailey*
Companies: Pfizer Inc.
Keywords: Diversity ; Ethics ; Culture
Abstract:

Recently there has been much focus in the business world on diversity and how embracing our cultural differences can make a business stronger. Some suggest that cultural competence is the most important skill for effective work performance in the 21st century. In addition to the business advantage that embracing diversity brings, we have an ethical obligation to recognize and account for cultural differences in the workplace, to help our colleagues maximize their potential within the profession. This talk will explore some examples of cultural differences, and how they can affect our working relationships. Suggestions will be made for how to best understand and embrace our cultural differences and work effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
