This talk describes a new, interdisciplinary undergraduate major in Data Analytics at The Ohio State University. The major is co-administered by the Department of Statistics and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and represents a curricular collaboration between the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, the College of Medicine and the Fisher College of Business. Approved by the Ohio Board of Regents in February 2014, the major is one of the first of its kind in the country at a major research university. Through courses and a capstone experience, students in the major investigate the principles of data representation and management, software design, statistical modeling and analysis, and the application of these concepts in areas of specialization such as business analytics, computational analytics and biomedical informatics. In this talk I will discuss the structure of the major, the collaborative process that led to its design, the current state of the program and plans for the future.
