Type: Roundtables
Date/Time: Tuesday, August 5, 2014 : 12:30 PM to 1:50 PM
Sponsor: Section for Statistical Programmers and Analysts
Abstract #313250
Title: Infrastructure for Growth
Author(s): William Coar*+ and Amber Randall*+
Companies: Axio Research
Keywords: Training ; Growth
Abstract:

The focus of this roundtable is training and individual growth of statistical programmers during a time when initial and ongoing training seem to be de-emphasized as we are pressured to meet more aggressive project timelines. As many leadership experts suggest, growth happens only when it is intentional. As programming leaders, we have a responsibility to not only encourage individual growth, but also provide the opportunity. More important than simply providing the opportunity, individual trainees need the motivation for any training program to be successful. This discussion will focus on infrastructure for growth: identifying individual needs of the current work force, effective training techniques, how these might evolve over time, and assessing ways to encourage motivation.
