Abstract:

After having a thought of replacing my seven year old laptop, I have looked around for what are being offered. Because a major concern is the performance of a laptop, I first looked at central processing unit (CPU) in products. Surprisingly to me, it is not an easy comparison. After central processing unit (CPU) development hits the ceiling of frequency, the innovation goes in two directions. One is putting up more cores. And the other is rather counter intuitive by picking up CPUs with weaker computing power. The worst to consumers is the available options have exploded to a scale, which is beyond average users to make decisions. Literally hundreds of CPUs have been released by Intel into the market in recent years. As it becomes a fact that newer developed CPU is not necessarily better to everyone, we decide to look into CPU specifications and try to understand what we really get for our bucks. The study walks through the process of searching, transforming, cleaning, and consolidating data. And eventually summarize the data into a form, which was easy to understand back in good and old days, to help average users make comparisons.
