Abstract:
|
Providing access to opportunities for working professionals to graduate-level studies in applied statistics is a challenge on many different levels. While advances in technology provide us with capabilities both in terms of our ability to connect across time and space as well as our ability to share explanations and worked examples, everything from institutional infrastructure, faculty qualifications and workload, to competent instructional design are all considerations not to be ignored. At the same time, the development of the online program allows fundamental questions concerning curricular integrity and consistency as well as program evaluation to be reviewed and new structures put into place. As a result of investments in time and resources, this new development work has both informed resident instruction and allowed the program to consider new directions that previously had been unrealistic. This poster presentation will share the lessons learned from 10 years of building a successful online program in applied statistics that now offers both a professional Graduate Certificate as well as a full master's degree.
