Solo statistical consultants are the first to admit that this profession has its fair share of the good, the bad and the ugly. The good aspects of solo consulting touch on continued professional growth, building rewarding and enriching relationships with clients and colleagues and achieving professional success. The bad aspects include uncertainty regarding the source of the next project and the burden of professional or personal isolation. The ugly aspects tap into client conflicts, project failures and ethical disputes. This session will provide an honest yet constructive look into all three aspects of statistical consulting by means of personal stories, experiences, insights and advice shared by the seasoned panel members. Regardless of whether or not they are sole practitioners, consultants attending this session will walk away feeling that they are not alone in experiencing the three facets of statistical consulting and knowing that they could immediately adopt some steps to enhance their chances of experiencing the good side of consulting and minimize the risk of experiencing the downside of consulting.
