Abstract:

Registration of 2D objects in images with respect to a projective frame effectively wraps the image onto half the surface of a sphere, with the registration points at fixed coordinates on that sphere. This form of registration is useful for performing shape analysis for various uses like object and shape recognition. Additionally, an initial 2D registration can be useful for solving the correspondence problem from image pairs and aid in 3D projective shape reconstruction. We show the S2 registered projective shape for the side of a building at UC San Diego, as well as for several human faces.
