Abstract:

A panel of experienced applied and consulting statisticians from industry and government will share career success factors and perspectives on career growth with the audience. Statisticians interested in career advancement or career changes will benefit from the discussion. The panelists will address the following questions: What does it mean to be an applied statistician in your area? What skill sets and personality traits are critical for success? Did you make any fundamental changes to succeed as an applied statistician? What experiences, outside of academic preparation, have shaped your career path? How do you measure career success? What are the pros and cons of moving from a technical role into management or leadership? What is the most valuable advice you can give a young applied statistician?
