Abstract:

Risk assessment models can assist a physician in treatment decisions for a patient. Statistical models that underlie risk assessment are sometimes based on data collected on morbidity events, the presence or incidence of a debilitating condition or event, and other times based on data collected on mortality, the event of death. We compare risks from Cox proportional hazards models based on coronary heart disease mortality, and risks from Cox proportional hazards models based on coronary heart disease morbidity. We use data from the Framingham Heart Study and a Monte Carlo simulation to compare risk models fit on the two different, but similar, responses.
