Abstract:
|
In the U.S. some states have a vaccine financing policy that supplies hepatitis B vaccine at no cost to all providers for all children; in addition, there are also states that have established a specific hospital hepatitis B vaccine supply policy that provides hepatitis B vaccine to delivery hospitals only at no cost for all newborn infants, both types of states were referred to as states with hepatitis B vaccine supply policy. The association between hepatitis B vaccine supply policy and time in days from birth to the first dose of hepatitis B vaccine was evaluated with Cox's Proportional Hazards model for complex survey data. Infants born in 2006 from the 2007-2009 National Immunization Surveys (NIS) were included in this study. The results show that receipt of the first dose of hepatitis B vaccine occurred earlier among infants born in states with a hepatitis B vaccine supply policy than among infants born in states without a policy (hazard ratio 1.29, 95%CI 1.21-1.37), and among infants whose providers participated in the VFC Program compared to those infants whose provider did not participate (hazard ratio 1.28, 95%CI 1.15-1.42), when controlling for socio-demographic factors.
