Abstract:

Prostate cancer is a major public health problem, which over a lifetime will affect an estimated one in five American. The American Cancer Society estimated that there were about 192,280 new cases of prostate cancer in the United States in the year 2009. About 27,360 men will die of this disease. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men, exceeded only by lung cancer. While one man in six will get prostate cancer during lifetime, only one man in 32 will die of this disease. The death rate for prostate cancer is going down. More people are diagnosed earlier with this disease than used to be. Different studies conclude differently if weight, height, and alcohol consumption are prostate cancer risk factors. Using the National Health Interview Survey of 1997-2008, we are trying to find out if there is any relationship between prostate cancer and men's weight, height and alcohol intake.
