Abstract:
|
A sample of 208 mostly male military veterans who were diagnosed with sleep apnea were prescribed Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), and recorded their adherence with the treatment protocol daily for a term of one year. CPAP adherence is defined as the amount of time spent at the prescribed pressure level, and is measured by the CPAP unit. The data records display diverse features, not all of which have been previously reported in CPAP adherence studies: immediate termination, gradual termination over periods ranging from weeks to months, interruptions after periods ranging from weeks to months followed by resumption of use, alternations of much and little adherence, gradual increase in use over periods of months, high day-to-day variability with near constant mean use over the full recording period.
