Abstract:

An overview of the Advanced Placement program in general and the AP statistics course in particular, including a description of its syllabus. This is followed by a comparison to the undergraduate business statistics curriculum as evidenced by the content of standard business statistics textbooks. When a critical mass of students with AP Statistics credit enrolls, there could be important consequences for BBA programs with one and two semester tracks for Statistics. The paper discusses the opportunities and challenges created by this phenomenon to statistics instruction. The paper concludes with suggestions to business faculty and administrators regarding AP statistics: what to do with the students who have passed it, and how to change the statistics curriculum to challenge and accommodate them.
