Introducing Compass: Software for the Design of Adaptive Dose-Finding Trials — Continuing Education CTW
ASA , Cytel Software Corporation
Instructor(s): Yannis Jemiai, Cytel Inc., Nitin R. Patel, Cytel Inc.
Cytel has been at the forefront of applying adaptive trials design in practice for several years. Cytel's new CompassT has been developed from this experience and follows East®, the extensively used adaptive and group sequential design software for late stage trials. Now, Compass extends Cytel's adaptive design software suite to include dose-finding trials. Designers of phase II dose ranging studies are challenged to find the right doses to carry forward to late stage development. The PhRMA Adaptive Dose Response Group has shown that adaptive designs can often substantially improve on traditional designs. The FDA's recently issued draft guidelines encourage adaptive designs especially in the learning stage of clinical development. However, the dearth of industrial strength, validated software forces statisticians to write custom code, effectively inhibiting wider deployment of adaptive approaches. Compass provides a natural workflow for designing dose finding adaptive trials, based on either frequentist or Bayesian designs. Workshop attendees will learn: - appropriate adaptive dose-finding methods, both frequentist and Bayesian - the practical aspects of simulating and comparing operating characteristics of trial design candidates - a considerable understanding of this versatile software for determining which adaptive design is best for a given dose-finding study
