Abstract:
|
Several studies have been done that point to the anxiety barrier that causes student to resist taking mathematics courses until absolutely necessary. One would assume that students with an increased math anxiety would be more likely to take a statistics course to fulfill their logical system requirement. In the present study, an instrument which combined STARS and MARS is used. The instrument is examined for internal reliability of anxiety scores. This study compares statistics anxiety and mathematics anxiety across the semester for different algebra and statistics courses. The study examines the relationship between students' mathematics anxiety and statistics anxiety and how it affects performance in exams.
